Ingredients

  • 4 medium-sized potatoes
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, finely chopped

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing

Method

  1. Wash the potatoes and peel off the skin. Cut them into small cubes and keep them aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
  3. Add chopped onion and green chilies. Sauté till the onion turns translucent.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
  5. Add the chopped tomatoes and sauté till they become soft and mushy.
  6. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, and salt. Mix well.
  7. Add the cubed potatoes and mix well with the masala.
  8. Add 1/4 cup of water and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
  9. Once the pressure is released, open the cooker and cook on medium flame for 5 minutes till the masala thickens.
  10. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  11. The Potato Masala is ready to be served with rice.
