- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon water

Method
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Stir to combine.
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water.
- In another mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- Add the yeast mixture to the milk mixture and mix well.
- Add the flour mixture to the milk mixture and mix with a stand mixer or hand mixer until the dough comes together.
- Knead the dough by hand for 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover the bowl with a clean towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Divide the dough into 12 pieces and shape them into small balls.
- Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Mix the egg yolk and water in a small bowl to make an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the balls of dough.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until the pan dulce is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.
Notes
