  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder

  • 1/4 tsp red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil/ghee
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

Method:

  1. Wash and soak the basmati rice for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Heat oil/ghee in a pressure cooker or a deep pan.

  4. Add chopped onion and green chillies and sauté till the onions turn translucent.
  5. Add ginger garlic paste and sauté for a minute till the raw smell goes away.

  7. Add garam masala powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt to taste. Mix well.
  8. Add the soaked basmati rice and mix well, making sure that the rice is coated with the masala.
  9. Add 2 cups of water and mix well.
  10. Cover the pressure cooker or the deep pan with a lid and let it cook for 2-3 whistles in a pressure cooker or for 20-25 minutes in a deep pan on low flame.
  11. Once cooked, switch off the flame and let the pressure release naturally in a pressure cooker or let it rest for 5-10 minutes in a deep pan.
  12. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with raita, pickle or papads.
